Wedgetail’s mission is to conserve and restore biodiversity through sustainable finance. We finance companies of all shapes and sizes that have biodiversity at the heart of their business models, resulting in financial capital and natural capital returns in tandem.
We truly believe biodiversity is better business. We are based in Australia but work on global projects, unified by the massive ambition to bend the curve on biodiversity loss by 2030.
As part of our business, Wedgetail may collect and hold personal information about the people and groups we interact with, including but not limited to, business owners, landowners, co-operatives, spokespeople, founders and website visitors.
This privacy policy details our commitment to protecting the privacy of personal information provided to or collected by us when providing our services. In this privacy policy, we, us or our means Wedgetail Pty Ltd (ACN 656 724 766) and all of its subsidiaries and affiliates.
This privacy policy outlines how we process, use and protect your information and how we comply with the requirements of the Australian Privacy Act 1998 (Cth), the 13 Australian Privacy Principles (“APPs”) as well as:
- the types of personal information we collect
- how we collect and hold personal information
- how we use your personal information
- when we disclose your personal information
- the disclosure of your personal information outside of Australia
- your right of access, correction and restriction

Personal information means information (and in Australia, includes an opinion), whether true or not and whether recorded in a material form or not, about an individual who is identified or reasonably identifiable.
It is important to us that you feel comfortable with how we process your personal information and that you read and understand this privacy policy before you use any of our services. You should not use any of our services if you do not approve of how we process your personal information. The types of personal information we collect
As part of our business activities, we may collect and hold your personal information, including your:
- name and contact details (such as mail address, mobile number and address)
- date of birth;
- financial information;
- your nationality and country of birth;
- career history including areas of expertise;
- government identifiers (such as your TFN where necessary and relevant, which you can decline to quote).
With your consent, we may collect sensitive information about you. Sensitive information is a subset of personal information that is given a higher level of protection under the Australian Privacy Principles. Sensitive information means information relating to your racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religion, trade union or other professional associations or memberships, philosophical beliefs, sexual orientation or practices, criminal records, health information or biometric information. Provided you consent, your sensitive information may only be used and disclosed for purposes you have consented to or which are directly related to the primary purpose for which the sensitive information was collected, including:
- for the purpose of us maintaining a comprehensive company file;
- for the purpose of information compilation or analysis for internal purposes; and
- in an anonymised format for the purpose of information compilation or analysis to share with third parties.
Sensitive information may also be used or disclosed if required or authorised by law.
How we collect and hold personal information
We collect personal information in the following ways.
Directly
We collect personal information which you directly provide to us, including when you submit a finance enquiry or subscribe to our newsletter, when you apply to work with us via email, or when you request our assistance via email or over the phone.
Indirectly
We may collect personal information which you indirectly provide to us while interacting with us, such as when you use our website, in emails or over the phone.
From third parties
We collect information from third parties, such as:
- third parties we engage to help us conduct background checks;
- recruiters or other businesses in our network; and
- details of your use of our website from our analytics and cookie providers and marketing providers
We only collect, hold, use and disclose sensitive information for the following purposes:
- any purposes you consent to;
- the primary purpose for which it is collected, including to comply with any regulatory requirements;
- secondary purposes that are directly related to the primary purpose for which it was collected, including disclosure to the below listed third parties as reasonably necessary to provide our services to you;
- to contact emergency services, or to speak with your emergency contact where we reasonably believe there is a serious risk to the life, health or safety of you or another person and it is impracticable for us to obtain your consent; and

How we use your personal information
When you visit our website or otherwise interact with us:

- to contact and communicate with you about any enquiries you make with us;
- for analytics, market research and business development, including operating and improving our services, associated applications and associated social media platforms;
- for advertising and marketing, including sending you promotional information about our products and services and other information that we consider may be of interest to you;
- to comply with our legal obligations and resolve any disputes that we may have; and/or
- if otherwise required or authorised by law.
When you submit a finance enquiry or we finance your project:
- to assess your enquiry and complete any due diligence;
- to finance your project and undertake any associated transactional steps;
- to send you welcome packs and other onboarding materials;
- to ensure we comply with our legal requirements under any applicable laws and resolve any disputes we may have;
- for internal record-keeping and administrative purposes;
- to contact and communicate with you; and/or
- to provide advice, support and ongoing commercial assistance.
When you complete a job application or enquire about working with us:
- where you are a contractor or employee, to onboard you;
- to connect people within our community;
- for internal record keeping, administrative, invoicing and billing purposes;
- to contact and communicate with you;
- to comply with our legal obligations and resolve any disputes that we may have; and/or
- if otherwise required or authorised by law.
When we disclose your personal information
Disclosure is based on one or more of the following applying:
- your consent;
- where it is reasonably expected that we will process your information;
- if required by law; and
- where permitted by Australian Privacy Legislation.
When your information may be transferred
Wedgetail only transfers personal information as described below. We always observe great caution when transferring your personal information and your personal information is only transferred in accordance with this privacy policy and after taking appropriate security measures. We do not sell personal information to third parties.
We may transfer your personal information to third-party service providers including outsourced admin, legal and regulatory providers, accounting and technology service providers and related entities who may either require your personal information in fulfilment of their duties, or may have access to this information (e.g. in the case technology SaaS provider). These companies will get access to your personal information to the extent necessary for them to fulfill their obligations, but they may not use or share the information for any other purposes. We will take reasonable steps to ensure that they handle your personal information with the same level of diligence that we do.
We may use a web analytics platform to collect and process information. These systems work similarly and to find out how Google Analytics (as one example) uses information when you use third-party websites or applications.
Disclosure of your personal information outside of Australia
In certain limited circumstances, your personal information may be shared with the ATO or ASIC which will then exchange this information with equivalent overseas regulatory bodies as a result of Australia’s participation in the Common Reporting Standard and Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act.
Where in accordance with this privacy policy, we disclose your personal information to third parties who reside outside Australia, you agree and acknowledge that we are not required to ensure that those third parties comply with Australian privacy laws.
Your rights
You have the right to request information about what personal information we are processing of yours and how it is being used by contacting us in writing at hello@wedgetail.vc.
You also have the right to request correction of incorrect, incomplete or ambiguous personal information concerning you by contacting us. For the protection of your privacy and your personal information, we may require that you identify yourself in connection with our assistance.
In accordance with applicable information protection laws, you also have the right to request that your personal information be erased or that the processing of your personal information be restricted. In certain situations, you also have the right to object to the processing of your personal information and request that your personal information be transmitted in an electronic format.
If you are not satisfied with our response to a complaint, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
We may use cookies
Cookies are text files placed in your computer & browser to store your preferences. Cookies by themselves do not tell us your email address or other personally identifiable information. However, they do allow third parties, such as Google and Facebook, to cause our advertisements to appear on your social media and online media feeds as part of our retargeting campaigns. If and when you choose to provide our website with personal information, this information may be linked to the information stored in the cookie.
Storage and security
We are committed to ensuring that the personal information we collect is secure. We hold your personal information:
- in a variety of formats including on databases, in hard copy files and on personal devices, including laptop computers; and
- only for as long as is reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected or to comply with any applicable legal reporting or document retention requirements.
To prevent unauthorised access or disclosure, we have put in place industry standard physical, electronic, and managerial procedures and security measures, to safeguard and secure personal information and protect it from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification, and disclosure.
While we are committed to security, we cannot guarantee the security of any information that is transmitted to or by us over the Internet. The transmission and exchange of information is carried out at your own risk.
Changes to this privacy policy
This privacy policy is subject to change at any time. The amended policy will apply whether or not we have given you specific notice of any change. Please check our website for changes if you have any questions or concerns.
