Biodiversity is
better business

forest trees and water from above

Here’s how we’re making it happen.

Finance for nature-positive ventures

Everything depends on nature. From health and happiness to economies and resilience, humanity is inextricably linked to the natural world.

Halting biodiversity loss is therefore critical — but to do so, we need better business models. Gone are the days of mitigating environmental damage and carbon neutrality. Those strategies are no longer sufficient.

Nature-positive business models inherently protect, restore and regenerate species and ecosystems.

Nature-positive is our future — but this paradigm shift needs and deserves financial support.

We’re not a bank, but we do offer loans.

We’re not a VC, but we do invest in innovation.

We’re not a charity, but we do offer grants.

We’re a financier like no other.

Zorzal

Scaling the world’s first Bird-Friendly-certified cacao farm

Project summary

Zorzal is dedicated to using cacao to finance the conservation of Bicknell's Thrush habitat. The majority of the 1,019-acre reserve is left ‘forever wild’, while other sections are used to grow cacao that is then processed at an off-site facility. Wedgetail’s investment supports Zorzal in scaling its operations by purchasing cacao from farmers that are adopting practices that support biodiversity.

Revival

Reviving 4,000 years of Mexican cacao history by honouring tradition and embracing modernity

Project summary

Revival Cacao is determined to restore Mexican cacao to its former glory, using both ancient techniques of ceremonial cacao lavado and the most modern post-harvest processes for fermented specialty cacao sourced from the rainforests of Tabasco, Chiapas and Oaxaca. In addition to selling high-quality cacao beans, Revival also exports ceremonial cacao paste and chocolate couvertures and is exploring the processing of upcycled cacao pulp and husk products. Wedgetail’s investment helps Revival work with local producers, expanding farm rehabilitation efforts, enhancing traditional agroforestry farming practices where cacao plays a major role, and ultimately restoring forest ecosystems in the Tabasco and Chiapas regions.

The saying ‘you can’t manage what you can’t measure’ is often used to explain why we need to incorporate nature into our economies. But… who is doing the ‘managing’?
